Es el año 2008 y Leidy Vázquez con su esposo están listos para recibir su primera hija, un embarazo muy tranquilo vivió Leidy, hasta que en los últimos meses empieza a notar que su bebé no se movía como de costumbre, con algo de temor, decide visitar al médico para descubrir la razón. Ya allí, los doctores dicen que es algo normal y que la pequeña está bien.
Se llega el día del parto, y a la expectativa de cómo iba a ser la pequeña Sarah sus padres la esperan con amor. Llegan al hospital, entran a la sala de partos y Leidy empieza labor de parto; allí, recostada en la cama, nota algo extraño, pues los encargados empezaron a oprimir con fuerza su estómago con el fin que saliera la bebé; pasados unos cuantos minutos, Leidy ve por primera vez a su niña, y nota que estaba algo morada, sin embargo, no presta mucha atención, pues el sentimiento de alegría era más grande.

Cuando salen del hospital, llegan a casa, se acomodan y empiezan la nueva aventura de ser padres. Con el paso del tiempo y ya con tres meses de edad, la madre de Sarah empieza a notar algo extraño, pues la niña no se movía como otros bebés. Con un poco de angustia, Leidy empieza a preguntar cuál era la razón en los controles que asistían, donde la única respuesta que le dieron era que la niña era muy juiciosa, tranquila y consentida, que debía esperar y con el paso del tiempo ya iba a empezar a moverse como los demás niños.
Una de las recomendaciones fue que la metieran a un jardín donde pudiera compartir con más niños, y así, socializar la ayudaría a moverse más; acción que se demora un poco, pues la niña aún era muy pequeña. Al cuidado de sus abuelos paternos, Sarah fue creciendo, en un entorno lleno de amor. Aunque sus padres trabajaban, cuando llegaban a casa Sarah compartía con ellos, en especial con su papá.

A los dos años Sarah empieza a caminar y a comer sola, aunque fue un poco tarde lo logró. Es así como a los cuatro años la niña entra al jardín infantil, donde se adaptó de manera correcta pues le gustaba socializar con los demás niños. Pasadas unas semanas de estar en el jardín, su profesora empieza a notar que la niña no se mueve como los demás, es por ello que informa a su madre quien toma medidas en el asunto; con una carta hecha por la maestra se dirige al médico para conseguir respuestas.
En el hospital empiezan a tomar exámenes, luego de hacer un encefalograma diagnostican epilepsia, posteriormente hacen más estudios y dan más diagnósticos que no son. En medio de las circunstancias, ha estado su madre, que con mucha fuerza afronta cada diagnóstico, exámenes, procesos de inclusión y demás.
Pasado el tiempo, tras haber estado en terapia de lenguaje, motora y ocupacional, su madre no nota avances en Sarah, es por eso que después de dialogar con el padre de la niña, toman la decisión de inscribirla al colegio. Allí aprendió a desenvolverse en un grupo, pero no aprendió temas como escribir o leer.
Después de buscar nuevas estrategias para que Sarah aprendiera y tuviera más opciones de aprendizaje, Leidy empieza a buscar fundaciones o entidades expertas en el tema. Un día, mientras estaba en la escuela de fútbol con su hijo menor ven un publicidad de FUNDEI, una fundación encargada de fortalecer capacidades en personas en condición de discapacidades cognitivas y mentales.

Llamando la atención de la madre de Sarah ella no duda en comunicarse, después de hablar con una de las directivas, toma la decisión de inscribir a Sarah allí. “Realmente ha sido una ayuda muy grande” dice Leidy; allí Sarah ha fortalecido sus habilidades comunicativas, se expresa y habla más. Sumado a esto, las relaciones interpersonales han aumentado, y su amor y pasión por las artes la motivan e inspiran esforzarse más.
Los domingos Sarah asiste a clases de deportes con sus padres y hermano menor, es un espacio apropiado para ella, pues es feliz con su familia y amigos FUNDEI.
