Cariñoso, obediente, respetuoso y aunque en edad ya es adulto, su personalidad aún es como la de un niño. Así es Joel Andres.
Con una hermana mayor, Joel fue el segundo bebé en llegar a su hogar. Emocionados, sus familiares esperaron con ansias la llegada del nuevo integrante a la familia. Un día, mientras aún estaba en embarazo, Gladys, la madre de Joel, salió como era de costumbre a hacer sus labores en el campo, en el camino se tropezó y cayó fuertemente en la raíz de un árbol. En el momento fue solo un golpe fuerte, sin embargo pudo pararse y seguir su camino.
Después de haber llevado un embarazo muy tranquilo al fin llegó el día del parto; por fin iba a tener en sus brazos el segundo hijo que estaba esperando. Ese mismo día, advirtieron a su familia que el pequeño iba a tener problemas para desarrollar el lenguaje, pues tenía frenillo. Era un problema menor que se podría fortalecer con terapias, por esa razón sus padres no se preocuparon mucho.
Con el paso del tiempo, y con algunas dificultades en casa, Gladys tomó la decisión de emprender camino a la ciudad de Bogotá, pero el pequeño Joel se quedó en el campo con su padre. Mientras Gladys trabajaba y ahorraba para dar una mejor vida a sus hijos, Joel en el campo le ayudaba a su padre, con algo de dificultad pues no podía moverse como cualquier niño de su edad.
Vivió toda su infancia en el campo con su padre, hasta que Gladys ya estable lo llevó con ella, se le dificultaba hacer actividades por sí solo, tales como bañarse y amarrarse los zapatos. Gladys vio la posibilidad en la ciudad de llevar a su pequeño al médico, pues sabía que quizás sería más fácil que le realizarán cualquier tipo de examen que requería su hijo. Allí el médico decide hacerle un encefalograma.
Días después llegaba la hora de conocer los resultados , Y Gladys con un poco de temor en sala de espera estaba atenta al llamado para los resultados. Sentados, el doctor empieza a mostrar imágenes, que parecían solo manchas de color negro; mientras este señor de bata blanca continúa hablando, indica que habia un pequeño punto en la parte de atrás de la cabeza del pequeño, era una fisura que apenas se alcanzaba a ver.
Mientras el doctor hablaba, empieza a explicar que el niño tenía déficit cognitivo, aunque no era profundo, su madre se preocupaba. “Fue terrible saber que mi único hijo varón tenía eso, no me esperaba tal noticia” eso pensaba Gladys. Sin embargo, ella tomó esa noticia como un nuevo desafío de la vida, que con amor y paciencia podía sobrepasar. Al llegar a casa le contó a las hermanas del niño, quienes con amor lo recibieron y se propusieron colaborar en lo que les fuera posible.
Semanas después, Gladys llevó a su hijo al centro Crecer, donde brindaban atención con especialistas, y Joel empezó a fortalecer nuevas habilidades; allí duró 8 años. Ya mayor de edad, más independiente, y con amor y pasión por las artes, Gladys lleva a su hijo al centro Musical Batuta, donde se enamoró más de la música, allí resaltó por su compromiso con este arte.
En el año 2018, Gladys gracias a una amiga conoce la Fundación de Desarrollo y Emprendimiento Integral (FUNDEI), una entidad que brinda apoyo de profesionales a personas con discapacidad cognitiva y sus familias. Gladys se anima a visitar la fundación, el primer día conoció una parte del equipo de trabajo, y al salir de allí se llevó una excelente impresión de la fundación.
Desde entonces empezó a asistir los días sábados. En FUNDEI Joel ha desarrollado aún más habilidades, pues antes no se le facilitaba socializar con personas, y allí además de hacer lo que más le gusta, que es el arte, ha hecho grandes amigos de vida. Es una persona que respeta a todos, y aporta cada día nuevas experiencias enriquecedoras para los demás y para él mismo.
